The Promise presents the birth, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus in a fresh and touching way. This dramatic pageant of the life of Christ features the works of Claire Cloninger, David T. Clydesdale, Gloria Gaither, Mark Hayes, Sandi Patti, Phill McHugh, Luke Garrett, Don Hart, Walt Harrah and Don Marsh. Three dialog versions assure that The Promise can be presented by choirs with varying staging and dramatic resources. Its many other helpful features make it an extraordinary musical that is easy to use. Writer Jan Dargatz has provided much staging help. Sets, props, characters, and costumes are all clearly outlined in the General Production Notes and also at the beginning of the relative scenes.
The facilities, resources, and needs of individual churches will vary significantly. The staging suggestions and dialog versions may be adapted as needed. Dialog Version "C" is designed to be performed without any acting or special staging required. As a resource book, the pageant may also be used in partial form as a supplement to a church's self-designed program.
The joy of the Easter story is God's final triumph over death and the provision of hope for the sinfulness of mankind. Towards the effective and creative communication of that truth, this musical work is joyfully dedicated.
