Mary McDonald has three brand new anthems in this packet. First is LET IT BE JESUS, a beautiful, modern worship, Passion and Christy Nockels song. Then, imagine marrying the classic Charles Wesley “And Can It Be” lyric with the traditional “Londonderry Air” melody. You’ll want to experience this. AMAZING LOVE is Mary at her best—just gorgeous. Finally, perfect for Easter, or any service of remembrance, is a setting of WERE YOU THERE? This arrangement works beautifully with just piano, but it also comes with a full symphonic orchestration from Ed Hogan.
Cliff Duren created a user-friendly, ready-to-sing arrangement of the hugely popular We the Kingdom song, JESUS DOES. Solo- or duet-led on the verses, your choir gets a chance to open up and really sing on the choruses. He also shares an original song, co-written by Allie Lapointe Brauhn. It’s a beautiful reminder that Christ is the eternal One, who was and is PERFECTLY FAITHFUL. Cliff’s originality is on display here, too. The verses are in 4/4 and the chorus is in 3/4. I love the way he blends both “feels” and makes them come together in such a musical way. Coming together on Sunday morning, I’m always looking for ways to incorporate hymnody. WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS is a classic, and Cliff has created a setting that stays true to the original but feels modern and appropriate for today.
Chris McClarney might not be a name you immediately recognize, but your church will immediately know and engage with his song SPEAK TO THE MOUNTAINS, and your choir will love what Phil Nitz has done with the arrangement. THAT’S THE POWER from Hillsong Worship is another song you’re going to want to add to your spring lineup. Phil, as he always does, made this a “choir song” that everyone will love singing. The chorus (which will likely be familiar to you) gets deep in your soul and hangs on!
David Wise, one of the freshest new arrangers (though he’s not really new; he’s been around a while doing a million different music-related things), has a way of setting songs for choir that just draws you in. His latest example is I SPEAK JESUS. I know you think you know what this arrangement will be, but trust me, he takes it to a new level. It’s an anointed song and I promise it will be a ministry song that will lead your congregation to a new place of worship. COME JESUS COME, the popular CeCe Winans worship song, is the second of three from David. This song just works. With a gospel feel that’s so fun to sing, it’s a reminder that “...deep down I know this world isn’t home, come, Jesus, come.” The CROSS MEDLEY is a stirring setting of “At the Cross,” “Near the Cross,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Three classic Cross-centered hymns, weaved together in a way that reminds you of your heritage and the songs of your childhood while drawing you to the foot of the Cross and back to the Savior. Check it out for Easter.
This Richie Kingsmore arrangement of the Rebecca Peck song EVEN IN THE VALLEY is a classic from the PraiseGathering Music Group. Some songs are just ministry songs. This is one of those. I think especially right now, with all that’s going on in our world, it’s a powerful statement…“Even in the valley, God is good.” Take four minutes and let this anthem minister to you. Bryan Sharpe knows how to write for a cappella voices. For this release, he’s arranged the classic hymn JESUS PAID IT ALL and included the modern worship chorus, “O Praise the One.” If your choir isn’t singing a cappella, this is a good place to start. If the vocal percussion is out of reach, you can always substitute with a simple cajón or djembe. Attainable and worth it.
I also have a couple of pieces in this packet. THAT’S MY KING—an infectious CeCe Winans song—will bring your church to their feet. So fun! ISN’T THE NAME has long been a favorite song of mine. It comes from the Covenant Worship camp and is a worship song in the truest form of the word. A simple chorus that builds and draws your congregation into worship. BUILD YOUR CHURCH is a multi-gen arrangement birthed out of my home congregation. We didn’t write the song (Naomi Raine and Maverick City wrote it) but it’s such a powerful experience to hear kids—the future of the church—singing, “Upon this rock You build Your church and the gates of hell will not prevail!” Powerful!
THE JOY comes from The Belonging Co. Infectious praise and worship—it’s a ton of fun! Finally, my friend Regi Stone, such an anointed songwriter, created a new melody to GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS. You might say, “why mess with such a classic melody?” Listen to Regi’s version first. He leads us right into the courts of praise.
It's such a privilege to partner with you and create tools that help you weekly lead your church into the presence of God. Always remember that you make a difference, and that you are loved and lifted up!
Blessings, friends!
