The Story - The Musical

Arranged and Orchestrated by David Hamilton
Narration Adapted by Deborah Craig-Claar

Using the Text of the NIV, THE STORY presents the Bible in a chronological, novel format. The church campaign was later pioneered by Max Lucado and Randy Frazee. THE STORY – THE MUSICAL is a breathtaking new project that presents God’s redemptive plan for His people from Genesis to Revelation and is based on the best-selling books by Lucado and Frazee and the artist recording by Bernie Herms and Nichole Nordeman.

Featuring eight songs from the Dove Award-winning recording, THE STORY – THE MUSICAL has been superbly crafted by master arranger and orchestrator David Hamilton for church choirs and soloists. Deborah Craig-Claar has artfully used sequences from Scripture and Frazee and Lucado’s commentary to tell a seamless story from Eden’s garden to an empty tomb to the throne of heaven. The story is brought into vivid relief by the addition of an accompaniment DVD which features the original concert videos from the popular tour of THE STORY. Although THE STORY – THE MUSICAL can be used year-round for every season and celebration on any church calendar, we have also offered an abbreviated 37-minute version that focuses on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, making the musical a perfect addition to any Lenten or Easter service. In the words of the original authors: “The Story tells the grandest, most compelling story of all time: the story of a true God who loves His children, who established for them a way of salvation, and provided a route to eternity; and this same God is alive and active today – still listening, still acting, still pouring out His grace on us". Listen for God’s call on your life, as He helps you write your own story!

The Story DVD

Review by Ruth

After calling Word Music concerning the DVD, I find out that the narration is included ONLY on the demo. I was told that this was pointed out on the website, but after reading through the description several times it is only noted that the narration is 'penned' which I assumed meant the written narrative was included NOT exclusive.
Obviously, I am not happy about this since the narrative is such an important part of the total package. Yes, I can use my pastor but timing is not as perfect in live performance and this only adds to the stress of the presentation. In my opinion, it should be up to each director to determine whether to use live or pre-recorded narration.

The gospel is most powerfully presented in the story of redemption from creation to the consummation of Christ's return, and this musical has one purpose: to lead one to respond to the gospel as presented from the entirety of Scripture, and how God has worked His plan of redemption from beginning to end. This musical is the most powerful and moving presentation of the gospel I have ever heard. There are many great musicals, but this one is epic and stands alone in the force of its message and the power of its music. Upon hearing the gospel of The Story, one has to make a choice. One must respond, one way or the other. The Story reaches into your is God's story for us. Your story is waiting to be written...what will you choose?

I've been leading worship for years, but this is my first opportunity at leading a choir and putting together a large musical. It was fantastic! I've had many in the choir say this was their favorite musical ever. Many in the congregation said "when are you doing it again?" It has more of a contemporary/rock feel for many parts (which I love).

Words have not yet been invented that describe the power and majesty of The Story. You want a musical that changes lives? Then, this is it! I have sung many musicals and anthems over my fifty years of singing in church with twenty of those being a worship leader. I can honestly say The Story is the greatest work of music I have ever heard. It's been almost a year since our choir presented this and it still impacts and moves me beyond anything I have ever experienced before.

The Story

Review by Linda

The most inspired music by far in my 25 years of music ministry. The choir absolutely loved the music, and enthusiastically rose to the challenge .... performing it memorized. Three full houses could not stop marveling at what a moving experience it was; several commenting they cried all the way through.

The lyrics are astonishing; the music thrilling. Hamilton's choral arranging and underscoring are simply off the charts. Can't thank you enough for making this gorgeous project accessible to the Church. All glory to our Redeemer!

Beyond Words!

Review by Noel Rivera

Have been with Word for a long time! It's been 20 wonderful years! First let me say our worship team presented this on Good Friday with the DVD on a large cinematic screen and live singing with our worship team. My personal feeling musically -- One of the Best ever! Lyrics and music and visuals were over the top! The feed back from the congregation -- "The Best Musical presented in church since The Resurrection and the Life presentation." "Best lyrics I have ever heard!" Every person I spoke to had a different favorite part! People were smiling and tearing during "When Love Sees You" and total silence and reverence with tears during "How Love Wins." Big ovation after "Alive." With a packed house of believers, 12 people came to the Lord! Every song is a true gem and can stand as a #1 in the charts. Together these songs truly tell the story. I pray your church or group "experiences the story once again... and listen for God's call on your life, as He helps you write your own story." Noel Rivera.

Finally, a musical that I feel confident that each and every song has been intentionally brought together in excellence, not just to make a musical, but to tell the story. With all due respect, I am so tired of musicals with 2 or 3 great songs and the rest are fillers. This musical finally breaks that tradition. What a powerfully anointed musical from top to bottom, showcasing God's excellence in musicality and drama.

Thank You.
