Psalms & Psongs
Created by Christy Semsen
Arranged by Daniel Semsen
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
This familiar scripture, taken from Proverbs, is an easy segue into the concept behind Psalms & Psongs, from Christy and Daniel Semsen. One of the most powerful things we can do for our kids is to be sure they are grounded in a strong scriptural foundation. Teaching our kids God’s Word – in this case, the Psalms – is so important to how we apply that wise, scriptural directive to “train up a child.”
Make it FUN—one of the most important ways to get kids excited about learning scripture is to make it fun…and make it easy! A great way to do that is by creating new, modern songs inspired by the Book of Psalms that kids will be eager to sing! Christy and Daniel Semsen have created a wildly-fun, musically-engaging project that brings the Psalms to life in a fresh, new way for young worshippers. Perfect for Kids Choir, Children’s Church and Children’s Worship services, you can also use it as a tremendous teaching tool to help your kids connect with the scriptures and learn some of the wonderful words and Biblical concepts found in the Psalms. With the downloadable Bible lessons and activity book this will become one of the most valuable kids ministry tools to come your way in a long time.
Available with a brilliant, super-fun, high-energy DVD accompaniment that can be used as a performance track for Kids Choir concerts or use as a sing-along tool in your next kids’ service, you’ll be sure to love this fast-paced, musically-innovative project from creators Christy and Daniel Semsen and your friends at WordKidz!

I love this collection! I used 2 of the songs at a kids' camp this summer and they were huge hits with the kids and the adults! I can't wait to use more in my choir program this fall. I love hiding God's word in kids' hearts through music!

We love the songs. They use great memory verses and have catchy tunes that the kids enjoy. The children are already singing the tunes with only 3 classes.
Our summer class is around 20, and over half the boys have autism, sensory processing disorder or behavioral issues. Many of them have been over stimulated with some of the videos that flash colors and lights quickly. Would liked to have seen more video or pictures of nature and children, perhaps kids doing actions or sign language to words.
Also, would be very helpful to have some suggestions for each song for actions, movements, sign language or instruments. Maybe this is included in supplements, but there is no preview to see what it is.
Overall, we really enjoy the songs and the CD. DVD helps the kids learn the words and have a visual, but improvements could be made.

I love the cd, we have one at home and we listen to it all the time. I give the cd five stars. As a musician and former music teacher, it's important for me to have quality music in the home for our boys, but I also have to enjoy it as a grownup.
That being said, I wanted to love the DVD, too, but I can't give it five stars. I found the faster songs difficult to watch, so much movement, flashing colors, etc. As a former teacher, it immediately made me think of special needs students. Autistic children and children with other sensitivities might have difficulty watching. It made my eyes a little tired, and I don't have any of the afore-mentioned issues.
We did purchase the DVD for our children's program at church and will use it for five of the ten songs (the slower ones and the songs that don't have so much activity on the screen). For the others, we will use the cd and make our own slides that have text only. Not as fancy but gets the message across. I understand what the creators were trying to do, and the music is very well done. Love scripture songs! I would encourage them on their next project to maybe tone down the video portion a little.
We will use the DVD this Wednesday for the first time, with the Psalm 1 song. That happens to coincide with our church-wide scripture memory program as we are memorizing Psalm 1 right now. I know the kids will enjoy it!

Wonderful songs... truly wonderful. I don't even know which one to teach first but can already see the kids using a couple of them for Children's Day in October. Some can be used as worship...God bless you Christy and Daniel.
